'A luminous future will richly repay those who are patient.'
97  points - James Halliday, Top 100 Wines of 2016 (2015 Vintage)
  • The latest release from Tolpuddle wines, the 2016 Pinot Noir is everything as good as its predecessors. Last year the wine featured in James Halliday's Top 100 Wines for 2016, having scored 97 Points, and this vintage will set it on course to be one of Australia's leading premium Pinot Noirs.

Tolpuddle Vineyard was established in 1988  and it took its name from the Tolpuddle Martyrs: English convicts transported to Tasmania  for forming an agricultural union.  The leader of the Martyrs, George Loveless, served some of his sentence working on a property near Richmond, part of which is now Tolpuddle Vineyard.

The vineyard is planted with mature Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines,  facing  north-east, and sloping gently up from Back Tea Tree Road. The soil is light silica over sandstone and of moderate vigour, ensuring well-balanced vines producing grapes of great flavour and intensity.

In 2006 Tolpuddle Vineyard won the inaugural Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year  award, reflecting the performance of this unique and distinguished site.

Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith MW purchased the vineyard in 2011 and are fully committed to seeing Tolpuddle Vineyard recognised as one of Australia's great single vineyards.

This Tasmanian Pinot Noir oozes style and finesse. It's effortlessly harmonious and aromatic with bright fruit flavours of strawberry, blueberry and subtle oaky spice. A stand-out pinot with pure texture, flavour, intensity and complexity; all balanced with impeccable artistry. Crispy skin duck breast is the recommendation for this stellar red.

  • 2015 Vintage Reviews

'Bright, clear crimson; this is right up there with the best of the best from a great Tasmanian vintage, sharing the alluring, perfumed fruits and the integrity of high quality tannins profiling the structure for a long future. There is a purity to the red and black cherry/berry fruits that shines through the portals of the savoury/spicy tannins. A luminous future will richly repay those who are patient.

'It's no shrinking violet. It's pinot noir in a cursive, elaborate script. Herbs flounce, spices flay, twigs trip through sour cherry and beet. A gentle infusion of woodsmoke, orange peel and roasted nuts adds to the feeling that summer has passed, and autumn is well upon us. I like this. It's complex in a seamless, engaging manner. It combines personality with discipline; it finishes taut and controlled. If it was walking down the street you'd sneak a second look or two.'
