DESCRIPTION
  • The Cuilleron family domaine is located in the hamlet of Verlieu, part of the town of Chavanay. As of 2012, the domaine is comprised of 52 hectares of vineyards, covering multiple appellations including, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph Rouge and Blanc, Cote Rotie, and Saint-Peray.

    Le Lombard is 100% Marsanne from 55-year-old vines planted in east/southeast orientation on the slopes of the Côte de Verlieu.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

    High density planting in sandy, granitic soils. No insecticides or pesticides are used in the vineyard, and only a small amount of organic fertiliser is used, with respect to the soil and vine balance. Leaf-thinning and green-harvesting are employed to promote grape maturation.

    Grapes are handpicked then sorted and pressed into oak barriques. Fermentation and malolactic are carried out in barriques using indigenous yeasts. Post ferment, the wine spends an additional 9 months in barrique, with no racking and regular lees stirring.

    TASTING NOTES

    Le Lombard is  rich, complex wine with a mellow nose of white blossom and honey accompanied by roasty toasted flavours. On the palate, it is fat and opulent yet balanced by the natural acidity. Le Lombard has attractive purity, with a lingering hint of bitterness on it's long finish.
