New vintage of a My Wine Guy favourite Tasmanian Pinot producer. Exemplary wine, with rose, cherry, earth and garrigue.
Cape Bernier is situated on Tasmania's east coast overlooking historic Marion Bay. This is an ideal site for genuinely cool climate viticulture as the coastal location and maritime weather patterns ensure a frost-free spring, mild growing conditions throughout summer, and an extended cool autumn ripening period.
This elegant, balanced wine has been open vat fermented with wild yeasts and matured for nine months in French oak puncheons. It presents a range of fruit characters, complemented by fine tannins. The savoury spice flavours are characteristic of this vineyard on the southern East Coast. Cellaring for 3-5 years will allow it to show its full potential.
All Cape Bernier grapes are hand reared and handpicked at harvest to ensure the best interpretation of the terroir comes through in the highest quality wines.
Cape Bernier's Pinot Noir has extensive leaf plucking done during the ripening season to expose the beautiful fruit to as much sun as possible. This explains the full body and silky tannins, plus the beautiful ripe berry fruit flavours of our wine that balance the natural acidity, while the cool climate adds spice.

'Late rains are said by Cape Bernier to provide a lighter mouthfeel than previous vintages, but all things are relative: this is no wimp, with complexity riding high and bramble and forest fruits running through the long palate and lingering aftertaste. A bolder wine that reflects the impressive 2012 vintage in Tasmania, darker cherry fruits, nicely woven oak spice and an interesting streak of more herbal, sappy pinot here too. The palate has depth and flesh, really supple and even, tannins wrap around ripe dark cherry, really fine and even, holds beautifully through the finish, their best pinot to date. Brilliant. Drink in 2016.

'This wine has really hit its straps in the last two releases (the 2012 was also excellent) and it shows impressively focused red and dark cherry fruits with a handy thread of spice and foresty notes too, really fresh. The palate's evenly shaped, smooth ripe tannins carve out plenty of space for supple red cherry fruit flavors; acidity sits bright and crunchy, really supple and even, builds well. Drink now.'
