  • Ceoltóiri (pronounced “keel-toy-ree”) is Irish for “musicians”. The Kirks love playing music, Irish and otherwise. For them, it’s a joy to hear each instrument working to produce a harmony, a complete whole. In 2017 they picked the ripest Grenache they have yet harvested at Clonakilla. Mourvedre, Shiraz, Cinsault, Counoise and a rumour of Roussanne make up the rest of the blend. A joyful wine.

'A super blend of grenache 50%, mourvedre 28%, with splashes of shiraz, cinsaut, roussanne and counoise for added interest and flavour. It's so lively, aromas emanating from a baker's kitchen with cardamom, ginger and star anise, floral too. The palate is lighter framed, juicy with supple tannins but it's not simple, there's just a joyous ease to this with tangy acidity to close. Delicious.'

'The aroma. The refreshment factor. The bursts of spice and florals and berries. The way fine-grained tannin gives birth to finesse. There’s a sweet edge to it all in a spice box sense, the Middle Eastern Bazaar. But it’s smoky and sensual and, simply and at heart, lipsmackingly delicious. A beautiful wine, hands down. Drink it now-ish, because there’s no reason why not.'

'There’s attractive depth and juicy spunk to this 2017 vintage. It has a mix of ripe red berry and blueberry aromas with sweet raspberries and sappy, crushed roses. The palate delivers a juicy, exotic blend of nectarines and red berries amid smooth, easy tannins. A blend of grenache, mourvedre, shiraz, cinsault, counoise and roussanne.'

'Medium to light red/purple colour. The pepper, violet and mixed-spice bouquet is amazingly fragrant, intense, bright and multi-faceted. The wine is bright, fresh, intense and crystal-clear in its aromas and flavours: a lovely, fine-grained, light-bodied red, which will appeal especially to pinot drinkers.'
