  • WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

This wine is a powerful, fruity nose combining rich notes of red and black fruits and a subtle hint of oak. La Framboisiere offers a powerful palate dominated by crunchy red fruits. Its velvety tannins and exceptional length make it a pleasure to drink!

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Based in Nuits-St-Georges, the famous Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and in more recent times, the domaine has greatly expanded its vineyards across the entire Côte d'Or. The grapes are entirely destemmed and fermented in a mix of new wooden vats for the top end wines and stainless steel for the lesser cuvees. Once notorious for being fairly austere, there has been less emphasis on extraction over the last ten years and the wines show increased freshness, purity of fruit and more judicious use of oak. A contender for one of the most improved domaines in Burgundy over the last decade.

    WINE SPECTATOR

Tightly wound, yet dense, with flavors of cherry, currant, sandalwood, olive and sweet spices, this is intense and persistent on the lingering aftertaste. Finely wrought and balanced. Best from 2021 through 2033. 200 cases imported.

    TIM ATKIN MW - DECANTER

This is a textbook Mercurey red from this much-improved Nuits-St-Georges-based négociant, and it's usually widely available. Sourced from a 10ha monopole, it's fermented with 20% whole bunches and aged in 20% new wood. It's a commendably reliable wine, sweet and appealing with a good underlying focus, showing some clove spice with red cherry and raspberry fruit.

    WILLIAM KELLEY - WINE ADVOCATE

There are fully 40,000 bottles of the delightful 2017 Mercurey La Framboisière, a pure and expressive wine that bursts with aromas of cassis, raspberries, candied peel, spices and licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with a lavish attack, melting tannins and a nicely concentrated core of fruit. The combination of quality and quantity is rare in Burgundy, so this cuvée is a gift to wine lovers.

    WILLIAM KELLEY - WINE ADVOCATE

The 2017 Mercurey La Framboisière continues to show very well, wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of strawberries, raspberries, incense and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, succulent and expressive, with a lively core of ripe fruit, juicy acids and powdery tannins, concluding with a sapid finish. As I've written before, this cuvée's combination of quantity and quality—some 65,000 bottles are produced in a normal year—makes it a veritable gift to wine lovers.

    NEAL MARTIN - VINOUS

The 2017 Mercurey La Framboisière, a 10-hectare monopole of the domaine, was bottled just before harvest and contains 20% whole bunches. Maybe predictably, it has an attractive, light raspberry jam bouquet with touches of red cherry. The fresh, approachable palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity and a dab of spice on the aftertaste.
