Fromm's passion for Pinot Noir is reflected in the attention to detail shown in the vineyard and throughout the winemaking process. Carefully selected clones and rootstocks, together with intensive vineyard care and low cropping, means the vines produce fruit that illustrates the soil in which they were grown.
The 2017 Fromm is a bright and pure Pinot with good fruit weight and sweet spicy undertones. Layered and harmonious with a structural complexity yet offering lovely drink now approachability.
Representing four vineyard sites and encompassing three sub-regions in Marlborough (Brancott, Waihopai & Wairau Valley) this Pinot Noir clearly expresses a FROMM winery style. A bright and pure Pinot with good fruit weight and sweet spicy undertones. Layered and harmonious with a structural complexity yet offering lovely drink now approach-ability.
Opening with alluring bright, dark, red fruits, the nose is under laced with slatey minerals, Earl Grey spice and a subtle dusting of oak. The palate is generous with lovely fruit weight and tasty, balanced acidity. There’s a velvet structure to this wine which is aided by its ripe, layered tannins. This 2017 is very approachable and rewarding young yet complex enough to sit and wait out a handful of years in the cellar.
FROMM have always loved Pinot Noir and showed both faith and foresight that it could thrive in Marlborough, planting Pinot vines in 1990. Their first attempt at the variety validated this belief with International success and acclaim and consequently helped put both Fromm and Marlborough on the international Pinot Noir map. From here the region''s Pinot industry bloomed and is now easily New Zealand's largest Pinot Noir producing area. Fromm, though, has remained staunchly boutique choosing to produce no more than 7,000 cases a year. With a quality without compromise attitude Fromm also makes fine examples of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Syrah and Rosa. All the wines are certified organic through BioGro.
SAM KIM - WINE ORBIT
Showing poise and restraint, the elegantly expressed bouquet shows sweet raspberry, cherry, thyme and almond characters with a touch of floral lift. The palate delivers juicy fruit intensity and supple mouthfeel, wonderfully supported by fine texture and polished tannins. Beautifully composed and delightfully expressed. At its best: now to 2025.
