After travelling extensively throughout many of the worlds wine regions, Ben Glaetzer returned to the Barossa and joined the family company. Ben's ability to blend traditional winemaking techniques with a modern flair is reflected in the style of wines under the Glaetzer label. He makes unique, elegant wines with minimal intervention, which are regarded as classics and unmistakably Barossan.
Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish.
A wet winter and spring coupled with cooler than average spring temperatures resulted in slower yet balanced canopy development and healthy flowering and fruit set. A mild summer with regular rainfall events followed allowing the fruit to be in no rush to mature, perfect for consistent ripening. Harvest commenced a few weeks later than recent years. The 2017 wines are of excellent quality exhibiting purity and lift with firm tannins and exceptional length.
Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters. Extended maceration was employed to enable good tannin development so the wine is soft and approachable early. Matured for 16 months in a mix of 40% new oak and 60% 2— 3 year old oak hogshead barrels (90% French / 10% American).
Black cherries, dried spice and blackcurrant aromas, leading to a plush yet focused palate. Ripe tannins provide structure to the flavours of blackberry and plum. Great drinking now but this wine will also benefit from 10—12 years of careful cellaring.
With a family history in the Barossa Valley dating back to 1888, Glaetzer Wines was established by Colin Glaetzer after 30 years of winemaking experience. Son Ben worked in the Hunter Valley and as a Flying Winemaker in many of the world's wine regions before returning to Glaetzer Wines and assuming the winemaking role. The wines are made with great skill and abundant personality.
A rich shiraz with plenty of ripe blackberry and plum aromas and flavors, as well as baking spices. Quite long, plush and assertive tannins. Drink or hold.

Cola, dark berries, mint chocolate, a little earth, spice and creamy oak. Rich, sweet dark berry set with coal and spice, dry grainy tannin, some nippy acidity, and a dark jubey finish. Sweet black wine, but good within style.
JOE CZERWINSKI - WINE ADVOCATE
Like all of the Glaetzer bottlings tasted this year, the fruit comes from the Ebenezer subregion in the northern reaches of the Barossa Valley. The 2017 Bishop Shiraz combines blueberry and boysenberry fruit on the nose, and flavors from the fruit flow easily across the palate, picking up hints of raspberries and baking spices. It's medium to full-bodied, supple and juicy, with a long, mouthwatering finish.

Dark, dense red/purple colour. An oaky bouquet with dark chocolate and cocoa powder aromas, the palate fruit-sweet and mouth-watering, more fruit-driven and refreshing. It's crisp and energising on the finish and aftertaste.
