'A palate that progressively builds its flavour spectrum, taking in lime, mandarin and passionfruit as it does so. A riesling of distinction.'
95 Points - James Halliday
The aim of Harewood Estate hasn’t changed since winemaker James Kellie, of Howard Park fame, purchased it in 2003: grapes are grown in select, low yielding vineyards to create wines that represent the best the region has to offer. One of the best ways to explore the various terroirs of WA is to line up the four estate Rieslings from Denmark, Mount Barker, Frankland River and Porongorup, and see the incredible versatility of the Great Southern region.
Every vintage James manages to coax these wines to their fullest expressions, while maintaining that classic, crystalline acidity - the hallmark of the Great Southern Rieslings. The 2017 Mount Barker is just one fine example, and definitely worth a look.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard in the Mount Barker sub region of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region.
Only the finest, more pristine, “free-run” juice was used in the production of this wine resulting in a palate of outstanding finesse, free from the harsh, phenolic characters and deeper colours associated with grape pressings.
A long, cool ferment in stainless steel tanks, minimal fining and the use of screw caps are all further steps towards capturing the inherent delicacy of this cool climate variety.
A brilliant, exceptionally pale straw colour with youthful green tinges. The wine exhibits intense floral, citrus and talc notes enhanced by an underlying spicy vibrancy. A seamless palate, with initial flavours of passionfruit and mandarin leading to a spicy mid-palate with hints of nectarine finishing with classic mouth-watering citrus. The fine structure is testament to the care taken during this wines production.
'A floral bouquet, citrus enhanced by nuances of talc, then a palate that progressively builds its flavour spectrum, taking in lime, mandarin and passionfruit as it does so. A riesling of distinction.'

'Very light colour, with a fresh lemon pith aroma, the palate just slightly off-dry and deliciously fruity, balanced and lively, with a juicy nature lifted by zesty acidity.'
93 Points - Huon Hooke
'The Harewood Estate rieslings are terrific drinks. This is the Mount Barker version. Such a pretty riesling. Such good intensity. Orange rind, mineral, talc and lime. Hints of passionfruit too. An assured finish. So good to drink.'
