  • One of the darlings of the Australian Wine Show circuit, and a former winner of the coveted Jimmy Watson trophy (with their Kelly's Reserve), it seems that Home Hill's endless cycle of unbelievable Pinot's continues on unabated with this 2017 edition.

Nestled in the picturesque Huon Valley, a short thirty-minute drive south of Hobart, Home Hill have one of the most coveted vineyards in the entire Apple Isle. It's Pinot country, and while they constantly battle with the elements, when things are on song, they are truely inspiring wines. The 2017 is more of the same, with a darker fruit spectrum, and a powerful fleshy palate that is immediately charming. Thus far the wine has already nabbed four trophies, including Wine of Show at the 2018 Australia & New Zealand Boutique wine awards, so more great things are expected to come.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The vineyard was planted out in 1992 with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sylvaner grapes. The grey loam, high-clay soil and reliable rainfall provide excellent growing conditions for these varieties.

The Huon Valley sits on the same degree of latitude as Bordeaux in France (albeit forty-three degrees south of the equator rather than north). These regions share a similar climate, with winters featuring fog, frost and snow, and an abundance of spring rain. This allows for the slow ripening of fruit during warm months and the perfect conditions for cool climate wine to be produced.

    TASTING NOTES

The nose is generous and pure with lashings of dark cherry, plum and pure pinot fruit. The palate is balanced with a savoury mix of sweet cherry and earthy delights. It has a sweeping smooth palate with soft tannins and long lingering velvety finish. Cellar up to 10 years.

'Deep red-purple, excellent colour; the bouquet is fresh and bold, intense and ripe with black-cherry and spice notes, the palate medium-full bodied and rich, fruit-sweet and fleshy, with loads of charm. Tannins are soft and harmonious. An excellent pinot and great value.'
