  • THE BRIEF
  • The winemaking style of Josef Chromy is founded on producing wines that show a true 'sense of place' and celebrate the individual characteristics of each unique vintage. To ensure the integrity and delicate characteristics of the fruit, the grapes are received and vinified in Tasmania's most advanced winery with emphasis on the wine being an expression of its terrior.

In all of their wines balance is the ultimate focus, striving to marry fruit, natural acidity, structure, tannin and texture. The use of state-of-the-art technology for traditional winemaking techniques enables a gentle, minimal intervention approach which allows the subtle and delicate flavours of the cool climate vineyards to be expressed to their full potential.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • 100% Riesling sourced from our estate vineyard at Relbia in northern Tasmania. Our Riesling is hand-picked and transported to the winery as quickly as possible. Pressing commences as soon as the grapes arrive and the juice is transferred to stainless steel tanks, with only the free-run juice retained. Racked from solids after 2 days, it is then fermented at cool temperatures with a neutral yeast to showcase varietal characters. Bottled under screwcap, to enable the wine to be enjoyed at its optimum.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Pale straw with light green hues. Lifted talc aromas and fresh, juicy lime with hints of subtle white fruits and elderflower. The palate delivers juicy lime and zesty lemon combined with slaty mineral characters. The long, crisp citrus palate is balanced by gentle chalky texture and the natural cool climate acidity, creating a wine of length and structure.

JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

Processed quickly on the way to bottle. The titratable acidity of 8.4g/l and pH of 2.86 catch immediate attention, the residual sugar of 6.5g/l drowned by Rose's lime juice and green apple fruit. German winemakers of dry riesling would immediately understand the chemistry involved.'
