DESCRIPTION
  • The highest ranked Sauvignon Blanc from James Halliday's 2019 Wine Companion, and a veritable bargain when compared against the likes of great Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume, from which it stylistically descends. Barrel ferment, indigenous yeast, cooler and wetter vintage, means the Loire Valley converts will find plenty to like in this Australian (via way of Switzerland where Michael Hall lived for many years) Sauvignon Blanc. A drink to swill and think over.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Abundant winter rain followed by a cool spring and summer heralded a late vintage. The Hill Block was hand-picked on 10 April, most fermented in French oak barrels (30% new, Damy) while 14% was left on skins and fermented in tank before pressing to barrel. Nine months on yeast lees, fined and filtered. 2025 Bottles produced. Alcohol - 12.5%

'A sauvignon of compelling exactitude, persistence and textural intrigue, layering the herbaceous varietal DNA across the signature purr of Damy oak. There is ample breadth and mineral tension, following a wild fermentation in barrel and significant time on lees, conferring authority to a wine that will convince naysayers while astonishing those accustomed to mass market savvy.'
