  • THE BRIEF
  • Millbrook is an award-winning winery located in the historic town of Jarrahdale in Western Australia at the picturesque Chestnut Farm. Today the winery is owned and operated by Peter and Lee Fogarty who, together with their children have helped Millbrook grow into a recognised player in the Australian industry and earning them a five red star rating from James Halliday's Wine Companion in 2017.

SV (short for 'Single Vineyard') is an exciting new range for Millbrook Winery, designed to highlight the unique characteristics of only the most exceptional vineyards from across Western Australia. The SV Shiraz is a modern, refined wine that brings the purity of fruit from these amazing sites to the fore.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • The fruit for this first release Single Vineyard Shriaz was sourced from a 30-year-old vineyard located in the Frankland River region of the Great Southern, which provides high quality cool climate fruit. This region specialises in Shiraz that has a peppery, spice and red fruited backbone unique to Frankland River. The 2017 growing season was distinctively mild, meaning canopy management was very important to maintain fruit quality while the cooler weather meant a long ripening period that allowed for excellent flavour development.

Perfectly ripe fruit was hand harvested and delivered to the winery during the cool night. The fruit was destemmed and transferred to open top fermenters for fermentation, hand plunged twice daily for gentle extraction of tannins. Temperatures were kept below 25 degrees Celsius to retain the beautiful aromatics of the Great Southern region. The wine was then pressed to new and seasoned French oak puncheons, matured for 12 months before being lightly filtered and bottled.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Deep cherry red, purple hues. Aroma of lifted florals, mulberry and spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, ripe red berry, cherry and bramble, beautiful lifted lavender and violets with undertones of peppery spice from the cool climate vineyard site. The tannins are ripe and silky giving this wine a long finish.

NED GOODWIN - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

A fine shiraz exuding varietal content and regional DNA: cracked pepper to iodine-doused acidity framing blueberry, lilac aromatics and charcuterie all-sorts. It's very good. It is warmer than Northern Rhone top-drawer, but a truly energetic wine crackling along a taut timbre of acidity and tannin.
