Harvest commenced in mid April with the last parcel being harvested on the 5th of May. On average parcels we kept on skins for 10 days prior to pressing. The wine was matured in 3 year old and older French oak barriques for 9 to 12 months (depending on the parcel). Minimal filtration was used in the production of this wine.
On release the wine has a deep red colour with a bright purple hue. Aromas of blueberry and mulberry, plum and a underlying spiciness. The palate has berry and plum fruit characters. Its French oak maturation is evident with subtle cedar, cocoa nibs and nutmeg characters adding to the wines complexity. The palate is medium weight with elegant long tannins and long persistence of flavour.
Mountadam was first setup in 1972 by the late David Wynn, a pioneer of the wine industry an founder of Wynns Coonawarra Estate. Wynn made the winery famous on the back of superb cool climate wines, supported by his son Adam (who the winery is named after). Adam held onto the winery until 2002 when it was sold to luxury goods business LVMH. The winery returned to family hands again in 2006 when it was purchased by South Australian farmer and accountant David Brown and his wife Jenni. In late 2015 the Browns acquired the second High Eden vineyard established by Wynn. The two vineyards are dissected by High Eden road. The Brown family are keen to continue Wynn's vision to produce wines of elegance and structure. A focus on sustainable low input viticulture will guarentee the success of the vineyards into the future. From 2015, Helen McCarthy has steered the ship as Chief Winemaker.

A grapey, highly aromatic shiraz, playing the reductive card with a deft hand. Lilac lift caresses blue fruits aromas all, a whiff of salty iodine and terrine, pushed to a svelte finish by an effortless flow of peppery acidity. This is the sort of shiraz I enjoy drinking: mid-weight, savoury, fresh and reminiscent of the every day expressions from the northern Rhone, embellished with Aussie fruit.

This is fabulously expressed on the nose showing sweet raspberry, blackberry, vanilla, cedar and warm spice aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that is fleshy and velvety. It is up front and flavoursome with layers of silky texture and gorgeous flavours, leading to a lengthy smooth finish. At its best: now to 2025.
