2017 Nativ Suadens Rosso Campania IGT

2017 Nativ Suadens Rosso Campania IGT

An absolute masterpiece. Never in the past has such a massive impenetrably dark and fruity wine revealed itself capable of such balance and softness. So clean and pure.'

DESCRIPTION
  • The Nativ winery lies in the idyllic countryside of Campania, where the focus is placed on native grape varieties and the expression of the unique terroir. Founder and winemaker Mario Ercolino chooses to work with the vineyards of Irpinia because of the unique soil composition, forged through the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. It is these fertile volcanic soils that lend the Nativ wines a distinct voice and aromatic complexity.

The Suadens Rosso is a blend made up of Aglianico, Piedirosso, and Sciascinoso, picked from vineyards that sit approximately 600 metres above sea level. It is a rich and bold wine, with plum and blueberry fruit, balanced by chocolatey oak and a savoury earthiness. A great match for hearty Italian meat dishes!

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The grapes were picked in October, much later than normal, with extended hang-time allowing full ripeness and extra concentration in the fruit. Following light pressing, the must was fermented in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks, with selected yeasts. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to new oak barriques for 4 months ageing.

    Winemaker: Mario Ercolino
    Appellation: IGT Campania, Italy
    Grapes: Aglianico, Piedirosso, Sciascinoso
    Vineyard: Various across Campania

    TASTING NOTES

Lifted dark fruit aromas, accompanied by spice notes and vanilla oak. The palate is smooth and rich, with succulent, ripe black fruits, framed by ripe and chewy tannins, and underscored by a subtle earthy note. Big and bold, with a lengthy finish.
