'It's medium-bodied, buoyant with supple tannins, ultra-refreshing and frighteningly easy to drink.'
95 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday's Wine Companion 2019.
Norfolk Rise is the best kept secret of South Australia, with the vineyard in Mount Benson only planted in 2000, and the first vintage off the estate bottled in 2002.
The free draining limestone soil profiles and cool maritime breezes produce wines of exceptional quality and complexity, embodying the unique and magnificent terroir of the surrounding landscape.
After the whirlwind success and national sell-out of the 2015 vintage the arrival of this wine has been highly anticipated. It doesn’t disappoint, maintaining the elegant and complex cool climate style. A vibrant nose of cracked pepper and violets with luscious red fruits backed up by blackberries, chocolate and liquorice. Savoury notes with super soft tannins and a delicate body make this Shiraz a beautifully balanced wine.
Situated in the heart of the cool climate Mount Benson region, the Norfolk Rise Vineyard is planted on 180 hectares of undulating coastal hills. Within 5 kilometres of the ocean at 37 degrees south of the equator, our Shiraz is planted on near perfect “Terra Rossa” soils, providing an ideal level of nutrient and water retention.
Grapes were selected from our best Mount Benson Estate Shiraz vineyards. The fruit was crushed, and then fermented in stainless steel fermenters at 18-25°C allowing gentle extraction of fruit flavours and soft, supple tannins. The wine was matured in mixed old and new French oak barriques prior to bottling, to allow integration of the great complexity of flavours.
Vibrant magenta red. A vibrant nose of pepper with florals, liquorice and spice. A palate of red fruits with black pepper, vanilla and chocolaty almond husk. Soft tannins, dark fruit and chocolaty oak. This gorgeous wine will cellar well for 10 years, but why wait when it’s this vibrant and juicy?
'Machine harvested, crushed, destemmed, fermented, after 12 days pressed to stainless steel and 10% French oak barriques for 10 months. Highly perfumed, inexpensive and totally enjoyable punching well above its weight. All florals, black pepper and spice with juicy red fruits and a savoury overlay. It's medium-bodied, buoyant with supple tannins, ultra-refreshing and frighteningly easy to drink.'

'Wow, this is drop-dead gorgeous starting with its amazing deep purple and crimson; then the heady aromas and flavours kick-in think raspberry sorbet, black plums, florals and a smidge of black pepper and cedary oak and all in perfect balance with supple and velvety tannins. It has elegance and fineness in abundance. Extraordinary for a $16 wine'
95 Points - James Halliday (2015 vintage)
'Norfolk Rise has most definitely pulled a rabbit out of a hat here. It’s a ripping wine. It’s savoury and herbal and all those good things, quite bunchy and stemmy you could say, but it’s also poured with pure, deep, ripe fruit, all plum-shot, spearminty, black cherried and meaty. It’s the kind of wine that just glides through the mouth, all satiny and sure, though the thing is: it’s also struck with smoky, spicy tannin, and a good deal of it. In short, you would never pick it as an $18 wine. It has all the characters and qualities of a $40+ wine,. It also benefits greatly from a stint in the decanter. There’s little wonder it’s also caused a stir on the show circuit.'
