2017 Oakridge Willow Lake Vineyard Chardonnay

2017 Oakridge Willow Lake Vineyard Chardonnay

Whatever you call it, this is a beauty. It’s impressiveness is immediately apparent. Strong fruit, tight lines, complex messages that stay with you. Grapefruit and flint, oatmeal and fennel. It soars. Drastically good wine.

DESCRIPTION
  • From one of the most iconic producers in the Yarra Valley, comes the Vineyard Series (previously called LVS - Local Vineyard Series). It's a range of wines that allows winemaker David Bicknell to showcase the various terroirs of the Yarra, from some incredible, hand-picked vineyards.

To experience a single-vineyard Chardonnay, from a premium site, finessed by an artisan winemaker, is something everyone should try. Normally, those sort of wines come at a steep cost. What makes the Oakridge Willow Lake Chardonnay 2017 incredible, is that it delivers this quality at under $30! To give you an idea of how good it is, check out the 96 and 95 Point reviews from Campbell Mattinson and Huon Hooke. This is special.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Sourced from the Willowlake Vineyard, Gladysdale (planted 1981). 155-180m above sea level, with red volcanic soils.

Traditional winemaking techniques. Handpicked and whole-bunch pressed to 500 litre French oak puncheons for fermentation, with 11 months maturation on lees.

    TASTING NOTES

Lively acidity, with grapefruit providing the tension and a little meal and slight touch of sulphides on the nose. Engaging wine that is as much about the textural palate, as it is the finesse and detail. Long, extremely refreshing and a bargain.

96 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

'Light yellow, reserved colour. Smoky reductive aromas combine with roasted hazelnut, smoked charcuterie, smoked chicken and underlying grapefruit flavours. A delicious chardonay, intense and yet refined and tautly composed, the acidity seamless but bright and powering the whole thing along. Marvellous line and length; refreshing finish. A beautiful chardonnay.'
