Uber rare Chardonnay from the very famed Willow Lake vineyard in the Yarra Valley. Made by Marty Singh (who spends most of his days as sidekick to David Bicknell at Oakridge), this exceptional Chablissiene style Chardonnay is the darling of the Melbourne wine bar circuit. Think, tiny production, high quality winemaking, no time spent on marketing or websites, and you get the idea. Honest wine, no fluff.
It is, or might be, one of the sharpest, most alluring Chardies we've tasted all year. Pure, precision. Line and point. 95 James Halliday
, 95 Huon Hooke (and wine of the week to boot), plus an impressive 93 from Mike Bennie. Once you get a scent of this wine, your inner truffle hunting dog instinsts will kick in, and you will be tracking down a case or two of this wine in no time. REVIEWS
'Has nailed the '17 vintage, not picking too early. It's elegant and hand-tailored, fruit, oak and acidity are all in sync. The fruit spectrum, in particular, is perfectly balanced, becoming a seamless whole.'
95 Points - James Halliday
'Light, youthful colour and an attractive smoky barrel-ferment and intense lemon essence aroma, the palate lean and dry, nervy and taut and quite pared-back. There's intense lemon and grapefruit flavour and a shrill belt of acid in the wine: it cries out for food. The acid is a bit high if you drink it solo, but fine when drunk with food. A superb, high-tension, cool-climate chardonnay.'
95 Points - Huon Hooke (Wine of the Week, May 2018)
'From Marty Singh from Yarra Valley from Chardonnay. A producer to get an eye on, though you don’t see his wines much out of Melbourne. In deep with sommelier land there. Good stuff. Flavour town! Stone fruits and white flesh pear, the grip of a young pear too. It has pretty scents of pear and green melon, whiffs of almond too. There’s length and precision in the palate. There’s mouthwatering acidity to close. It’s a beautiful young chardonnay raring to go.'
93 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
