  • THE BRIEF
  • Ex- Mount Mary winemaker, Rob Hall, has branched out on his own, launching his eponymous label in 2014. He focuses on the Yarra Valley varieties - Pinot, Cabernet and Chardonnay - and sources fruit from smaller, hand-tended vineyards, from various Yarra subregions.

Rob's Chardonnay is built in a similar way to his Pinot - a blend of fruit from three different vineyards across the Yarra, culminating in a wine showing fresh curd and cream flavours, with white peach and citrus.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • A blend of three vineyards. Willowlake (cooler southern end of the Yarra Valley), Daniel's Hill (the warmer northern end) and Hall's parents vineyard (south of Healesville) which lies between the other two both in it’s geography and climate.

Predominantly fermented in older French hogsheads (300L). 70% whole-bunch pressed to barrel with full solids, 20% destemmed with 24 hours skin contact, 10% destemmed and fermented on skins for 7 days, matured in French oak (10% new).

JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION

Three vineyards, 70% whole-bunch pressed to barrel with full solids, 20% destemmed with 24 hours skin contact, 10% destemmed and fermented on skins for 7 days, matured in French oak (10% new). The bouquet is complex, as too is the palate; a very interesting group of vineyards, Lower and Upper Yarra- it all works well. Tangy, and with a long life ahead.
