A great wine that will deliver all you want in a cool climate cabernet without breaking the bank. All the juicy dark red berries we love come to the fore alongside bramble, dark chocolate and violet characters, all wrapped up in earthiness and fine-grained tannin. It's a medium-bodied red that's soft, fleshy and elegant. If you're keen to see what a bit of cellaring will do, give it 3-5 years.
The grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented slowly for 2-3 weeks extracting bright flavours and elegant tannins from the skins. 2017 was a moderate and generous season in the Yarra Valley with enough heat and rain at just the right times. Grown at three sites in the Coldstream and Warramate Hills area in the centre of the Yarra Valley, this wine is a fabulous and faithful expression of classical Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Elegant, fine and long. An explosion of summer fruits and complex earthy notes suggesting a long future. Travis Bush
Pale straw with lime hues. Aromas of stone fruit, citrus and jasmine with underlying floral complexity. Textured entry gives way to a precise, lively palate with flavours of grapefruit, white stone fruit, currant leaf and snow pea.
The Snake + Herring brand is a wine safari searching for remarkable grapes from West Australian Vineyards. The Search has begun, and our grape balloon manned by Snake (our winemaker) and Herring (our navigator) represent this. The southwest of WA is a viticultural treasure map as there are vineyard jewels scattered throughout. We seek for blocks within vineyards that really shine; they may seem dull when diluted by the bordering lesser dirt. The search is to find and polish these often overlooked gems and present a treasure chest of different jewels: pristine, crystalline Rieslings; crisp, radiant, multi-faceted Chardonnays; alluring, perfumed Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon; dark, exotic, hedonistic Shiraz; brilliant, regal displays of Cabernets and blends.
GARY WALSH - THE WINE FRONT
It mentions ‘blackcurrent’ on the label copy, and certainly, does taste of blackcurrants. Dark chocolate, blackcurrant, a pleasant tobacco and leafy character. Medium-bodied, fine powdery tannin, attractive ‘adult’ flavour, in that it falls to savoury and gently herbal, rather than simple fruit sweetness. Crisp finish. So nicely turned out and good to drink. Thumbs up.
