2017 The Pawn El Desperado Pinot Noir

A rose petal and spice bouquet, the precise palate replete with red and black cherry fruit decorated with fine, savoury/earthy tannins running through to a long finish. The price is barely believable.'

DESCRIPTION
  • The desperate pawn. A lone-wolf who sacrifices life and limb, in the ultimate chess move stalemate.

This El Desperado is a killer Pinot, priced at a level befitting of the chess-piece 'The Pawn', and like the said, humble pawn piece, it too has the ability to be so much more than the original sum of its parts. While we can't guarantee that you will come back as a queen if you stick around long enough, we can tell you, at least, that this is a staggeringly great Pinot for the money. 94 points James Halliday, and a bargain to boot.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

This Pinot Noir was made from grapes sourced from our Macclesfield vineyard and with warm days and cool nights, it provides ideal growing conditions for this varietal.

A blend of 6 different clones, they have taken to a bit of winemaking in the vineyard with all 6 clones being harvested together and fermented as one complete blend. The wine was left on skins for 2 days, then fermented dry over the next 10 days.

    TASTING NOTES

Aromas of cherry cola, rose petals and spice erupt from the glass. On the palate, the wine reveals a berry fruit explosion of black cherry and cranberry, with touches of balsamic and earth tones.

  • REVIEWS

'Multiple clones, whole berries wild-fermented in 3-tonne open stainless steel fermenters, matured in French oak (25% new) for 6 months. A pinot made equally in the vineyard and the winery. A rose petal and spice bouquet, the precise palate replete with red and black cherry fruit decorated with fine, savoury/earthy tannins running through to a long finish. The price is barely believable.'
