2017 Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz

2017 Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz

Spicy greenery of whole bunch, truffle, blackberry, dried herb and flowers, a wee bit of camphor. Medium to full-bodied, fine grainy tannin, a whole lot of spice, saline and savoury stuff in among fruit of almost Ribena-like intensity. Lovely grip and chalkiness through the finish, and more of that intense blackcurrant trailing along. It’s very Eden Valley, but with Torzi fingerprints all over it.

DESCRIPTION
  • Son of Torzi's Frost Dodger. Estate single vineyard wine grown in the chilly surrounds of Mount McKenzie in the Eden Valley. This label represents their rendition of Eden Valley, Barossa Shiraz using the non dried portion of fruit that goes into Frost Dodger Shiraz and is then aged in the very same 2nd and 3rd year Frost Dodger barrels.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

In the garage the shiraz fruit was gently destemmed including 25% whole bunch into open top milk vats and fermented warm with natural yeasts, soft pump overs, hand plunging and basket pressed to barrel to complete ferment. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Aged for 17 months in ex Frost Dodger barrels with the addition of 10% new French Oak.

    Alcohol - 14.5%
