  • THE BRIEF
  • A juicy, rounded expression of the classic GMS blend from Aphelion.

Sourced from vineyards in Blewitt Springs and McLaren Vale, winemaker Rob Mack has deftly guided the fruit into a luscious and layered wine, with lifted floral perfume, savoury undercurrents, and a lovely dark fruit profile. Soft tannins support the palate throughout, ultimately finishing in a wine that would match beautifully with rare roast lamb.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • A 40/35/25 blend of McLaren Vale Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz.
A blend of 3 parcels of Blewitt Springs Grenache, 4 parcels of McLaren Vale Mataro and 3 parcels of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

All ten parcels that make up this wine were fermented and aged separately before blending.

The Grenache components come from 3 separate Blewitt Springs vineyards. Whole bunch and whole berry ferments were used.

The Mataro parcels are from 3 separate vineyards, with some whole bunch, some pre-ferment cold soak and some 3-month extended maceration used.

The Shiraz components are from 2 separate but very close by vineyards – one higher in elevation and picked earlier, the other picked later. A portion of this lower elevation ferment was kept on skins for 4 months. The wine was then matured for 9 months in neutral French hogsheads prior to bottling

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

A beautiful and crisp savoury edge runs through this wine from aroma to palate. The extended ferment characters appear in the form of spicy meaty complexity whilst the youthful Grenache component keeps the feel fresh and vibrant. Savoury, spicy, complex. Matches well to lighter red meat dishes such as venison or rare lamb, but is equally well suited to a vegetarian lasagne. Versatility is a key component of this wine.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Straight out of the blocks, this new wine label established in 2014 by husband and wife Rob and Louise Mack has already gained a strong reputation for quality and value. Pedigreed winemaker Rob Mack concentrates on grape varieties that thrive in the Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale, producing stylish Grenache as well as other regionally emerging varieties, such as Mataro and Sagrantino. They craft their wines to match the foods they love to eat - Italian, Mediterranean, and Asian. It starts with the sun and the earth. Aphelion Wine Co.’s growers are passionate about producing premium, hand tended grapes from only the most select, unique parcels of land. *2018 Young Gun Winemaker of the Year Award Winner*
