Mount Langi winemaker Ben Haines uses his own label to explore and unearth the unseen corners of vineyards in established regions. His aim is transport the vineyards that he works with, into the glass - something that invariably achieves!
The new 2018 Shiraz from the Grampians combines intensity of fruit, with a cool-climate, savoury note that is reminiscent of the Australian Bush. It's alluring, complex and layered, with lovely powdery tannin structure, and pitch-perfect balance.
Hand-picked from sustainably-farmed Miners Ridge vineyard at the foothills of the Grampians. Intense fruit with succulence, natural brightness, powdery texture and effortless balance.
Ben Haines has a varied and experienced background in the world of winemaking. Having completed vintages with wineries all over the world, including France and the US, Ben returned to Australia to take up the helm at Mount Langi. After several successful years there, he has turned his attention to the creation of his own label: Ben Haines Wines.
These wines focus on regional expression and varietal focus. Predominantly explored through the grape varieties of the Rhone Valley, Ben looks to emphasise and unearth the unseen elements of vineyards within established regions. All of the sites he uses are mostly located in Victoria, with a couple of exceptions from South Australia.
In Ben's words: 'Exploration is the thread that ties the Ben Haines winemaking together. It feeds my ever-persistent curiosity and leads me to push any perceived boundaries or limitations – and ultimately, make better wine to share with you.'
