BK's flagship Pinot from a single vineyard in Lenswood, Adelaide Hills. Like most of Brendon's wines, it's 100% whole bunch and wild fermentation.
The Gower Pinot is consistently awarded year after year - the 2016 vintage won the Trophy for best Pinot at the Adelaide Hills Show, while the 2018 vintage has been ranked #1 Pinot Noir from the Adelaide Hills 2018 by the folks over at The Real Review.
Compared to previous years, the 2018 is a bolder, more assertive Pinot, with plenty of savoury forest floor earthiness, dark cherry and five spice lift. Certainly approachable now, it will also age well over the next few years.
2018 was a year of ‘masculine’ characters across all of our varietals – leaving aside wafting perfumes to cooler vintages – a profile that suits Gower to a tee. Musk and undergrowth on the nose Morello cherries, exotic spices and white pepper on the palate with great tannic structure. A handsome balance between finesse and power – broad shoulders and a slim waist. With a nod to European styling, this wine is all clarity of purpose and no apologies.
100% Lenswood Pinot Noir, handpicked, 100% whole bunch, wild-yeast fermentation, one month on skins, only four barrels made, 10 months in 25% new French oak, bottled in December 2017, unfiltered & unfined.
'I want to make wines that people share with their friends and talk about – talk about the style, about where it comes from.'
BK Wines was established in 2007 by Brendon Keys and his wife, Kirstyn. Like many of the new-wave, rockstar winemakers, Brendon and Kirstyn settled in the Adelaide Hills, where non-conformity seems to be the norm. Their passion for making wines with interest and integrity shines through.
Brendon’s greatest strengths as a winemaker are his passion for artistic expression and his uncompromising quest for high-quality fruit. When it comes to the process of winemaking, Brendon’s goal, first and foremost, is to source exceptional small vineyards producing grapes that reflect the individuality of a particular site. As a winemaker he uses a minimalist approach to gently guide well-chosen fruit to a beautiful final result in the bottle. This combination of an artistic soul and unyielding quality standards makes Brendon a recognised master of his craft.
NICK BUTLER - THE REAL REVIEW
Crimson red colour, bright and yet cloudy, unfiltered. Bunch-spice and dark cherries framed by a healthy lick of new French oak, the aromatics are complex - red licorice and plum sauce. The palate is fresh and serious, charry oak spice and ripe tannins afford structure to a beautifully fruited mid-palate. This will develop beautifully. Super-classy
A fine-tannined pinot with dried-strawberry and lemon-zest aromas and flavors. Medium body. Crisp acidity. Savory finish. Lovely texture. Drink now.
