Nestled amongst vineyards and olive trees and lying alongside Marlborough’s Opawa River, talented, young Owner/Winemaker David Clouston, mixes his European expertise with the best local fruit from the Awatere and the Wairau sub-regions of Marlborough.
The 2018 Black Cottage Pinot is designed for pure enjoyment. As David says, 'we are dedicated to producing a range of wines full of "gusto," and this certanily has that! The first drink on a Friday night should be this lush wine that is distinctively new world. Charming and structured, this wine can be enjoyed with a meal, or just on its own.
Sourced from the Southern Valleys with some fruit from the Awatere Valley. This pinot noir went through 100% stainless steel fermentation and was hand plunged. This brought out the perfumed berry fruit as well as increasing the silky mouthfeel of the wine. The wine was then aged for six months with French oak.
Deep garnet in colour, this wine displays aromas of black cherry, violets, forest floor and caramelised sugar. The palate has black forest chocolate gateaux notes with cardamom, chai, pink peppercorns and a touch of iodine adding interest. Underlying cranberry flavours are supported by a waxy mouthfeel and a juicy finish.
SAM KIM - WINE ORBIT
Sweetly fruited and inviting, the attractively expressed bouquet shows ripe plum, cranberry, floral, spice and toasted almond characters with a hint of dried herb complexity. The palate is juicy and beautifully rounded, delivering pristine fruit flavours together with subtle savoury undertones, backed by polished tannins. Smooth, lingering and very appealing. At its best: now to 2022.
