Tumbarumba is well credentialed for producing some of Australia’s greatest Chardonnay. With minimal winemaking influence, our intention is to showcase the high elevation, cool climate structural and fruit characteristics.
Hand-picked, high elevation, ultra-cool climate fruit that is cold pressed straight to tank, then goes through a partial barrel fermentation in French barriques with some battonage.to give flavour
Bright citrus and grapefruit aromas with hints of flint, matchstick and spicy oak.The palate is vibrant, expressive and seamless. A complex wine with layers of zingy grapefruit, white apple, nectarine and toast. The generous palate is in perfect tension with the tight, mineral acidity. A complete and harmonious wine.
A family owned & run winery, Jason & Alecia Brown’s Coppabella Vineyard is the only James Halliday, five star rated winery in Tumbarumba. The Brown's are best known as the family behind Moppity Wines in the Hilltops, with the Coppabella project based around a mature vineyard in Tumbarumba (that was the second planted in the region, incidentally). Chardonnay & Pinot Noir are the Coppabella stars, but there is scope for all sorts of cool climate styles here. Promising property in a region that is just waiting for its moment in the sun.
CAMPBELL MATTINSON - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Class act. Powerful and yet long and elegant. Pure white peach, custard apple, honeysuckle and chalk flavours combine seamlessly with spicy oak. A beautiful wine.
SAM KIM - WINE ORBIT
Graceful and stylish, this elegant rendition shows rockmelon, fig, lemon pith and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that displays wonderful depth and complexity. Perfectly structured by brilliantly pitched acidity, dressed by subtle oak, finishing impressively long and expansive. At its best: now to 2025.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
Hand-picked, cold-pressed to tank, partial ferment in French barriques, partial stirring. Lets the variety and the terroir do the work, with minimal winemaking inputs. White peach, pink grapefruit are the cool climate markers. Has room to develop depth and complexity.
