  • THE BRIEF
  • Koonara is the name of the property in Coonawarra where the Reschke family has lived for over 100 years, and where current winemaker Dru presides. Dru's Gran – Emiline May Reschke – lived until she was 99 and to celebrate her accomplishments as a dressmaker, designer and teacher of great note, she was front and centre on this most splendid of Pinot based Rose wines.

Koonara is certified organic, and has been practicising low-intervention winemaking since 2006.

The Emily May has been cutting swaithes through the wineshow circuit in recent years, with the 2017 being heralded as one of the finest Rose's made anywhere in the land (Trophy for Best Rose, and Stewards Pick at Royal Sydney). The 2018 follows very much in its predecessors footsteps, with 95 points already from Huon Hooke, and 97 Points and Equal Best Rose from the International Cool Climate Wine Awards 2018.

Having been released only late last year, it's a wine in fine form. It is a dry style, delicate but complex wine, with hints of Turkish delight, maraschino cherry and raspberry notes.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • In 1906, Henry Albert and Alice Jane Reschke came to Coonawarra to build a life for their family. The had a cattle stud. ‘Koonara’ is the name of the Reschke family property in Coonawarra. Today over 100 years on, the family still live in Coonawarra. The Cattle stud on the property is still there, but the vineyards and wine have been our passion since 1988. The land chosen for the vineyards was carefully selected out of the 3,000 acres available on the property in Coonawarra. Every year since 1991, 30 Cases of Koonara Wine has been made for family and friends. In 1999, the first Koonara wines were made available for the public, with a very limited number of cases, held back to give the wines a chance to mature in the bottle. The vineyards are naturally kept at an average of 2 tonnes or less an acre. We believe quality is paramount in creating a wine which is not only good, but consistent and age worthy each year.

    HUON HOOKE

Fresh light-pink colour with a slightly vanillan, spicy strawberry bouquet with a background hint of herbs. The palate is fruity and ample, with a dab of sweetness in the middle before a clean and balanced finish. A really lovely wine.'
