  • THE BRIEF
  • Lark Hill Vineyard was planted by founders David & Susan Carpenter in 1978. Their passion began with cool climate wines of Germany and France and so Riesling, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir were the logical first choices.

Lark Hill Vineyard is high on the Lake George Escarpment, from 860-880 meters elevation, overlooking the village of Bungendore. Ancient soils (350-450 million years old) are heavy in clays and shale, with quartz reefs adding minerality to the wines.

The slow and late vintage at Lark Hill produces an intense and aromatic Riesling with vibrant lime, green apple and mineral notes underscored by zesty acidity. Riesling were the first vines planted in 1978 and have remained core to the Lark Hill brand since.

  • WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Classic Canberra Riesling aromatics of lemon and lime are overlayed as young wines with apple blossom and kaffir lime, developing into cumquat and apple crumble with 10-20 years bottle age. The palate is dry and focused with minerality from the quartz & shale soils at Bungendore.

CAMPBELL MATTINSON - THE WINE FRONT

Delicious riesling. Thoroughly delicious. Intense with lime, lemon and orange, though exotic spice and rosewater notes add yet more interest. There’s a whisper of fruit sweetness but plenty of mouthwatering length. It’s quite beautiful. Textural.
