From its first production of 141 cases of 1995 Shiraz, Penny's Hill has established a fine reputation for outstanding vineyards from which acclaimed estate wines have emerged. Very much a part of the recent McLaren Vale landscape, the Penny's Hill story commenced in 1988 with the purchase of the original vineyard site. The brand message: "Proudly Australian. More so McLaren Vale."
Winemaker Alexia Roberts consistently produces fine, full-bodied, fruit driven wines using premium estate-grown fruit from some of the best quality vineyards in the region. A meticulous approach every step of the way, from the narrow-planted, low yielding vineyards and throughout the winemaking process, Alexia’s wines deliver the ultimate balance of texture, complexity and interest.
NED GOODWIN - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
16 months in oak following 10 days of maceration, malolactic completed in oak. This is a very good warm climate, maritime cabernet. There is something about the this region, availing itself to a heightened varietal display of mulberry, cassis, mint, bitter chocolate and a potpourri of dried herb, with an accent on the sage-brushed tannins, lining the finish.
NICK BUTLER - THE REAL REVIEW
A glass-staining purple colour with blackberries, aniseed and firm, toasty oak jumping from the first swirl. There's dark chocolate and plums on the palate - ripe and full of flavour. Excellent fruit character and will reward some time in the cellar
