  • Winemaker John Hughes has a passion. An obsession, you might call it. A single-minded focus on Riesling from South Australia. Hey, why be average at twenty different things, when you can be a master of one?

John's philosophy is to represent the hallmarks of a single region through this most versatile of grapes: Riesling. Each wine is allocated a number, which refers to its provenance as well as style.

This is only the second-ever release of this wine. The first vintage of No. 10 in 2017,  was designed specifically as the best Riesling John could make, to drink with his wife Belinda on their wedding day. Luckily, there was a bit left over, and its popularity means John will continue to produce it year after year. Named 'Zenit,' German for 'zenith,' this wine is comprised of the best fruit from each vintage, blended from various different vineyards. The 2018 vintage sees fruit from Eden and Clare Valleys, in a roughly 70/30 split. If you're a fan of John's wines, or a Riesling fan in general, this wine is not to be missed.

The blend for this wine changes each vintage, and for the 2018 vintage, it is a blend of Eden Valley (70%) and Clare Valley (30%). This wine is blended by my wife Belinda and myself. To us, this Riesling is what we believe best represents the vintage.

The wine is a great follow on from the inaugural 2017 vintage. A wine that, once having had the first sip, has you going back for more. Bright, fresh, elegant and showing the purity from each region.

The nose is very floral, with roses, white blossom, and fresh citrus. The palate is succulent, inducing, and has you salivating for more. Has a great balance of the citrus, lemon, lime and grapefruit. The acid is balanced with the sweetness of the fruit. A wine to be enjoyed now, or cellar for many years. Enjoy!

'70% of the fruit comes from the Eden Valley, 30% from the Clare Valley. The first release of Zenit (German for zenith), its delicacy belies its power, such is its purity and balance. It is bone dry, but leaves plenty of flavour in the mouth after it has been swallowed.'

'Representing the best fruit of the season, this riesling is made from grapes sourced from the Eden and Clare Valleys, blended in a 70/30 proportion, to create a long-term cellaring wine. Pristine floral and citrus scents, and a long, fine, intense palate. Stunning'
