  • Rieslingfreak is the inspiration of John Hughes. The first vintage of Rieslingfreak was in 2009, with a single vineyard Clare Valley Riesling.  The Rieslingfreak philosophy is to represent the hallmarks of a single region with our one iconic winemaking style. Each Rieslingfreak wine is allocated an individual number. This number represents not only the region in which the fruit was grown, but also the style and technical specifications which the wine is made.

Eden Valley Rieslings often showcase delicacy and refinement. Rieslingfreak No.4 typically demonstrates this, with aromas of citrus, talcum powder and white blossom, and flavours of brown lime and lemon, with a background of sweet spice. The wine drinks well young, but will reward with cellaring.

Fruit for the Eden Valley Riesling is sourced from two vineyards situated between Eden Valley and Flaxman’s Valley. One Riesling vineyard is owned by Michael Mason, situated approximately 3kms north-west of the Eden Valley township. The vineyard is planted on shallow grey sandy loam over shale rock soil, and situated 450m above sea level. The average yearly rainfall is 700mm.

The other vineyard is owned by Ben Zander, who is a grower for many well known and regarded Eden Valley Rieslings. The Zander vineyard is situated in Flaxman’s Valley 500m above sea level, soils loam over light medium clay, with high quartz rock and gravel content. The vineyard has a rainfall of approximately 650mm per year.

'Has all the elegance and than some of Eden Valley at its best, in particular its lime/lemon bonded fruit flavours. It's a wine that has had particular attention to detail in both vineyard and winery, and represents excellent value for money, thus nudging Rieslingfreak's No. 10 Riesling out of place.'

'This Eden Valley riesling is drinking exceptionally well right now. Beautifully balanced with defined lime and lemon flavours. The acidity is bright and pronounced though not the slightest bit overbearing. Excellent varietal and regional clarity. Succulent, refreshing and delicious. Good depth and subtle drive'
