Stella Bella are a small team led by Chief Winemaker - Luke Jolliffe and Viticulturist - Steve Martin. They bring Stella Bella wines to life from southern Margaret River, an area chosen for its pristine environment, unique climate and ability to create wines with beautiful finesse, elegance and precision.
Our sauvignon blanc vines are planted throughout our collection of southern Margaret River vineyards providing the ability to capture strong varietal character and maintain high natural acidity. Using a combination of sites provides great varietal complexity.
The full flavoured fruit from our southern Margaret River vineyards were picked between 12-12.5o Baume. 50% of the individual batches were pressed to tank and the other 50% were specifically selected for barrel fermentation and battonage. Creating the perfect balance of explosive varietal perfume, complex flavours, palate texture and refreshing natural acidity.
An explosion of passionfruit, gooseberry and guava are enhanced by lime, kaffir lime and musk. Fresh herbs, crunchy nettle and gunflint bring generosity and complexity to the nose. Precision and length are driven by lime, lemon and guava. Full in flavour. Delicious and mouthwatering.
Stella Bella Wines evolved from the fusion of two passionate minds, Stuart Pym and Janice McDonald. They had a strong belief in the unique and expressive terroir of the Margaret River region, and it was this belief that carried them on their journey to create Stella Bella Wines. Back in 1996, Stuart and Janice took over the 'Suckfizzle' Vineyard, believing that its distinctive location would produce unique wines. They weren't wrong, and in 1998 the first vintage of Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was released. The Stella Bella name was launched in the following yers, as their portfolio of wines grew. They added an estate range, an entry-level range under the label Skuttlebutt, and a premium range labelled, Serie Luminosa. In 2013, Stuart handed over the reins as Chief Winemaker to Luke Joliffe. Today, the Stella Bella team work with a variety of vineyards dotted throughout the Margaret River - Darch, Isca, Forest Grove, Karridale and, of course, Suckfizzle. Each site encapsulates a different aspect and terroir of the Margaret River, allowing Luke and his team to create harmonious blends across different vineyards, or to isolate single vineyard expressions and showcase the individual vineyard characteristics.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
As ever, jumps out of the blocks with its assemblage of tropical fruits on the bouquet, the palate following in the footsteps of the bouquet. The fusion of flavours does allow guava, gooseberry, grapefruit and a leavening of pea, to make each of the tropical flavours to claim its birthright on the long palate.
