  • WHO MADE IT?
  • THE BRIEF
  • Bounded by Bruny Island to the West and the Tasman Peninsula to the East, Storm Bay was named by Abel Tasman in 1642 when a storm forced his ships out to sea before they could anchor there.

A little to the north, the Coal River runs into the bay, marking the entry to a valley which has become firmly established among Australia’s most prestigious cool climate wine regions. Follow the river just 3 km north from the village centre and you come to Storm Bay Vineyards, planted on ancient tertiary clays and limestone producing richly textured whites and Coal River’s distinctive earth and spice scented pinot noir.

Until recently, these wines were a badly kept secret found only in Tasmania. Now the word is out and the first wines from the 2018 vintage, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, are heading to the big island to find their fame and fortune.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Designed to highlight Southern Tassie’s specific flavours, most of the winemaking is really done in the vineyard with careful viticulture. In the winery, a cool ferment in tank is followed by early bottling to preserve the maximum amount of primary fruit.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

This is classic Tassie Sav Blanc with a riot of stone fruits and fresh herbs to a long, clean finish.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Follow the Coal River just 3 km north from the picturesque sandstone village of Richmond in southern Tasmania and you come to Storm Bay Vineyards where the ancient tertiary clays and limestone coupled with long, slow ripening produce wines with finesse and elegance perfectly representative of Tasmania’s cool maritime climate.
