Tahbilk's entry level One Million Cuttings range of wines are seriously good value for money. Don't be put off by the price - these wines are crafted using premium Victorian fruit, and made by the skilful team at Tahbilk.
This 2018 One Million Cuttings Merlot has a plush and generous dark-fruited feel, coupled with an elegant, savoury edge and soft, moreish finish. Serious value for money.
This wine was crafted from 100% Merlot grapes, sourced from vineyards in the Goulburn Valley. Grapes were picked and crushed during the cool of night to retain their fresh, varietal flavours. The juice was then divided into select parcels. Each parcel underwent a different treatment such as malolactic fermentation; fermentation and time with French and American oak; or spending an extended period on yeast lees. Each treatment resulted in an individually flavoured parcel of wine, and the unique character and personality of the final blend is a result of the special handling of these separate parcels
Generous berry aromas follow to a delicious mouthful of more savoury characters alongside ripe plum and dark berry fruits. Soft tannins and great drinkability.
The name Tahbilk comes from the language of the Daung-wurrung clans, the first people in the area. They called it tabilk-tabilk which means place of many waterholes. Tahbilk Wines was established in 1860 in the Nagambie lakes sub region of Victoria’s Goulburn Valley. It is home to a unique meso-climate, influenced by inland lakes and lagoons fed from the Goulburn River. Purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, Tahbilk is home to 5 generations. Tahbilk is home to 200 hectares of vine, including the traditional Rhone Valley varietals Marsanne, Viognier, Roussanne, Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Classic varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho are also present. Tahbilk's flagship 1860 Vines Shiraz is produced from the estate’s original 1/2 ha of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Shiraz vines that are amongst the oldest in the world.
SAM KIM - WINE ORBIT
This is attractively fruited and inviting on the nose showing Black Doris plum, mulberry, warm spice and toasted almond characters with a touch of cracked pepper. It’s succulent, rounded and supple on the palate with fleshy texture and appealing fruit intensity, finishing long and silky. NZ Distributor: Kahurangi Estate Distribution.
