'It's full-bodied, rich, plump and lovely, with satisfying depth and amplitude, balanced acidity and a clean, dry aftertaste which lingers. It's the real thing.'

DESCRIPTION
  • TarraWarra Estate is best known for exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, alongside other single-block heritage varietals and estate blends. Their wines express the unique terroir of the TarraWarra Estate site in the Yarra Valley, which is comprised of 28 individual blocks and planted with carefully selected clones, each of which contributes distinctive characteristics to their wines. Under the watchful eye of winemaker Clare Halloran, all of TarraWarra Estate’s wines are meticulously grown, handpicked, vinified and aged on the estate.

TarraWarra Estate’s two flagship wines are made from classic Burgundy varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are particularly suited to the Yarra Valley’s cool climate.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The heritage blocks of B, D and G have a north-west aspect and represent a perfect site for Chardonnay. The three blocks have deep soils and a cool micro-climate.

The season leading up to the 2016 harvest saw warmer conditions through Spring and up to Christmas, bringing ripening forward. January and February were similar to 2015, with cool nights during ripening allowed for retention of acid and fine flavour development.

Racked directly to barrel after whole-bunch pressing, this wine is the purest expression of TarraWarra Chardonnay. Made without yeast or acid addition, the fruit batches from each block are kept entirely separate in barrel over the 10 months in oak. It is crossflow filtered without fining before bottling at the Estate.

    TASTING NOTES

Aromas of white stone fruits reflect the warmer year, the palate balanced between finesse, length and creamy texture. The acid line drives through with a persistent and long finish.

  • REVIEWS

'Elegance is really the keynote here, with the subtlety of each element contributing to that. The aromas and flavours are built around white-fleshed stone fruit with a complexity of creamy lees texture and lightly spicy oak, the acidity softly persistent and long through the finish. Fine and composed now, a little more bottle age will add depth and richness.
95 Points - Steven Creber, Halliday's Wine Companion

'Medium yellow colour, bright and glowing. The bouquet is rich and full of roasted hazelnut aromas - very much the classic chardonnay, which is true also of the palate. It's full-bodied, rich, plump and lovely, with satisfying depth and amplitude, balanced acidity and a clean, dry aftertaste which lingers. It's the real thing.'
