  • THE BRIEF
  • The 10X range of wines is Ten Minutes by Tractor's entry level series, and are sourced from several vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula. They are a regional expression of each variety, using estate-grown and managed fruit.

The 2018 10X Chardonnay is an elegant, white fruited wine, which shows the warmer vintage through its lifted and ripe fruit characters, but balanced by a crisp acidity and struck match complexity.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Grapes hand-harvested from late February to mid March, whole bunch pressed and the unsettled juice fermented by indigenous yeasts in 20% new 228 litre French oak barrels. An 8 month ageing in barrel with no bâtonnage to keep wines fresher and more taut. Natural partial (70%) malolactic fermentation before bottling unfined and filtered.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

A rather elegant version of 10X Chardonnay, despite the warmer vintage. A hint of gumball funk and white nectarine kick this off, though with less of an emphasis on fruit and no shortage of complexity. Delicacy, and all sorts of Chardonnay delights below the surface.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Ten Minutes by Tractor is the convergence of wine journeys that began almost 40 years ago, a group of individuals and vineyards that fortuitously came together over time to create the winery that exists today.

The winery started in 1997 with three family owned vineyards in Main Ridge, all ten minutes by tractor apart. Since then they have expanded and added new vineyards, but all have their own unique character with different aspects, slopes, soils, altitude and winds which flow through the valleys up from Bass Strait. Cool places. Beautiful places. Places that are defined by the wines they make and which can seem like worlds apart.

    STEVE LESZCZYNSKI - QWINE

Delicate and bursting with interest, layers of pleasure come freely. White fleshed stonefruit leads the way but its the delicate mouthfeel, the soft lemon juice, reserved creaminess and subtle nuttiness which have my attention. Tangy lemons raise their head up again on close with a touch of oak for the win. Polished from top to toe, this is a wonderful entry-level wine for the brand and one worth tracking down.

CAMPBELL MATTINSON - THE WINE FRONT

The 10X range is generally fantastic, with the odd exception. Happy days. Lots of fruit, a little funk, a satisfying finish. Feels just a little bit fancy and yet it’s ready to rip. Pineapple, grapefruit, tinned peaches and pears. Buoyant chardonnay.

A sleek, glossy and attractive chardonnay with plenty of melon and pears, framed in a crisp, dry and elegant style. Drink now. Screw cap.
