  • THE BRIEF
  • The Sandpiper range has developed a strong following in Australia due to the value offered and the sheer ‘drinkability’ of the range. The reds are produced to ensure that they are true to variety and region, plenty of good honest Barossa fruit, subtle use of oak to ensure the fruit shines through and soft approachable tannins ensure they drink well on release yet have structure to be cellared for up to 5 years.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Harvest was carried out at night. The fruit was pressed (using an airbag press) within an hour of harvest. Care was taken not to lose the delicate Riesling aromas and flavour precursors in the juice. After settling, the juice was warmed and inoculated with a neutral yeast selected for its ability to respect the purity of Riesling.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

Vibrant pale straw with green highlights. The nose shows perfumed floral notes along with fresh cut white peach and kaffir lime leaf. The palate follows through with juicy citrus flavours and light spice, along with a long balanced acidity and a fine minerality on the finish.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • The Thorn-Clarke family are known as sixth generation wine region employees, establishing a winery to solidify their presence in the region. Wines are styled for premium consumption, with vineyards being paramount in the winemaking process. Grape growing is the primary activity, wine producing a by product of the years of experience with the vines. Thorn Clarke is a Barossa Valley based winery that sources fruit from premier vineyards in the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley. The individual vineyard sites are Mount Crawford and Milton Park (Eden) and Kabininge and St Kitts (Barossa). Whites are left to Eden Valley, reds to Barossa Valley. Modern winemaking techniques are applied in their updated and modern winery. Technology assists in the production of cleanly made, volume brands that convey their regionality but ultimately are style for easy, early consumption.
