  • THE BRIEF
  • Tim Smith has always had a close connection to Eden Valley Riesling. The 2011 vintage was the first officially released in the Tim Smith Wines stable; it quickly caught the eye of James Halliday who awarded it 96 points. In his early days as assistant winemaker at Yalumba, Tim saw the making of Pewsey Vale and Heggies Rieslings, and later, he made Riesling for a number of smaller Eden Valley producers from the great 2005 vintage.

Pale straw-green; a delicately elegant style, with citrus pith/rind interleaved with minerally acidity.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • Tim Smith has carved out a distinguished career since his humble beginnings as a cellar hand at Yalumba in 1987. This includes winemaking duties at St Hallett, Tatachilla and Chateau Tanunda and winning a scholarship that took him to the Rhone Valley, an experience that would forever shape his winemaking. Today, he is deemed as one of the Barossa Valley’s most notable boutique producers. Since 2001, Tim Smith has specialised in making small batches of wine from the proven Barossa Valley varietals of Shiraz, Mataro, Grenache (and blends of all three) sourced from various vineyard sites in the region. He also makes white wines from Viognier and Riesling sourced from Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley respectively. The wines reflect the vineyard sites of the region as well as Tim’s Rhone Valley inspirations. The reds are full-bodied, aromatic and spicy with savoury tannins, whilst his white wines are fruit driven and textured.
