DESCRIPTION
  • The Two Tonne story began in 2013 when young winemaker Ricky Evans, who had been working alongside Peter Dredge at Bay of Fires, managed to sneak a very small parcel of fruit from the tightly held vineyards of the Tamar Valley. Just two tonnes of fruit began the journey, and its a name (and philosophy) that has stuck with the brand to this day: small parcels, big love. Ricky adopts a vineyard first philosophy; nurture the fruit, and the rest will follow.

This slightly off-dry Riesling is monumentally beautiful. Tassie Riesling can often be a little to austere when fermented dry, lacking balance, but with the addition of 10 grams residual in the mix, Ricky has lifted this wine into the stratosphere. It feels much drier than you would expect; the flavours of green apple, ruby grapefruit and ginger providing the top notes, while underneath the classic chalk and mineral character of the apple isle comes through. Killer wine.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The second release of the TMV Riesling, this aims to showcase the Tamar Valley & Tasmania in a more classical style than the Ziggurat.

From two parcels of fruit, and a mix of four clones. Attempting to find precision, purity and balance. Bottled in September 2018, matured in glass prior to release.

    TASTING NOTES

It feels much drier than you would expect; the flavours of green apple, ruby grapefruit and ginger providing the top notes, while underneath the classic chalk and mineral character of the apple isle comes through.

  • REVIEWS

'This one comes from half/half Three Wishes vineyard (just near the Batman Bridge on the Tamar River) and half comes from Native Point-Swan Bay. Sits at about 11.5 grams residual but is beautifully balanced. A stellar release from Tassie talent Ricky (Bobby) Evans.

Whoa. This is a great riesling. The key points are texture and perfectly judged sweetness that lends character but feels drier than what it is. It kicks off with brilliant, vibrant scents of lime, talc, general mineral things and faint candied citrus. The palate is limey but tight as, licked at by that candied citrus and crystalline, zingy, brisk acidity and the faintest oatmeal-yeasty note. Complex, delicious, epic in length, generally outstanding to drink. Yikes.'
95 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

'Pale colour and a fragrant, gently yeasty aroma with some almond-like and gardenia notes. The wine is fruity and soft, deliciously approachable yet delicate and refined. The acidity is seamless, and the 11 grams per litre of residual sugar almost imperceptible. (All Tamar Valley, from the Native Point and Three Wishes vineyards.'
