2018 Tyrrell's 1858 Hunter Valley Semillon

2018 Tyrrell's 1858 Hunter Valley Semillon

The 1858 Semillon is the little brother to the iconic Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon. Like the Vat 1, the 1858 comes from a selection of some of Tyrrell’s top Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley, with an average vine age of 40 years. With the same care and attention that goes into making Vat 1, this 2018 Semillon will live for many decades to come.

DESCRIPTION
  • The 1858 Semillon is the little brother to the iconic Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Semillon. Like the Vat 1, the 1858 comes from a selection of some of Tyrrell’s top Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley, with an average vine age of 40 years. It is fermented in stainless steel, giving it a lifted, fresh citrus nose with a zingy palate. Good for drinking while it is young, this wine goes really well with seafood and salad on a warm day.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

The grapes were machine picked in the cool of the night before gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a few months on yeast lees to gain extra complexity and mouth feel.

    TASTING NOTES

A lifted nose showing citrus freshness, the palate continues with fresh citrus and concentrated grapefruit flavours. The palate is light to medium bodied with a perfect balance of fruit and soft acid. In a vintage of this quality, all of our Semillon ended up with an “A” grade and we are incredibly pleased with the release of this Hunter Valley Semillon, easily our best yet.
