  • Certain names resonate strongly within the halls of Australian wine history. Jim Barry is one such name. It was Jim Barry's drive and community spirit that helped shape South Australia's Clare Valley as a benchmark producer of world class Riesling and cemented its place as one of Australia's premier wine regions.

    This fairly new venture from Jim Barry has become a beacon for alternative varietals in Australia. With similarities to Clare Valley Riesling, with its notes of lemon, melon and saline, the wine has found a new home in South Australia.

    Originally planted in the Clare in 2012, the Assyrtiko holds court with the regions great Riesling wines, with notes of Meyer lemon, melon and a saline/mineral twang. Epic stuff, we just can't keep it in stock long enough.

  • WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?


    Clear, palest straw colour in the glass. The wine opens with citrus rind, lemon blossom and a lick of wet slate on the nose. This wine has a sense of purpose in its line. Clean mineral, white floral and nice texture through the mid and back with the classic saline edge to finish. Screaming summer drinking, the finish is clean and refreshingly long.

  • Jim Barry Wines is a family winery based in the Clare Valley of South Australia. The company was founded in 1959 by Jim and Nancy Barry. The company is now owned and managed by Peter Barry, a second generation family winemaker. Jim Barry Wines is home to some of Australia’s favourite wines such as The Armagh, The McRae Wood, The Benbournie, First Eleven, Pb, The Cover Drive, The Lodge Hill Shiraz, The Barry Brothers, The Florita, The Lodge Hill Riesling and Watervale Riesling.

    Hand-picked, destemmed, 90% cool-fermented in stainless steel, 10% in barrel. Very intelligent winemaking invests the wine with firm acidity creating texture and structure. Clingstone peach fruit demands to be appreciated as it wraps itself around the lemon curd acidity.

    Brine and green herbs, ripe lemon and green pear. It's powdery and fresh, distinct brine and perfume, good crunch and freshness, a slight but pleasant bitterness, and a cool dry finish. Fit for purpose and very good.
