From West Cape Howe's ‘Regional Range’ of wines sourced from specific sub-regions of the Great Southern. All the Sauvignon Blanc is from the Langton vineyard in Mt Barker.
"These wines are from our Estate vineyards, made with minimal winemaking intervention to ensure best possible varietal flavour and regional expression." Gavin Berry, Winemaker
Taken from several blocks from which to choose the best parcels and, with the winery on-site, the fruit gets processed immediately, thus ensuring no loss of quality. Harvesting in the cool overnight temperatures also avoids the risk of oxidation or any loss of fruit flavour.
Very bright and clear with the tiniest hint of pale straw. Beautifully aromatic, this has the typically pungent, grassy and herbaceous aroma that Sauvignon Blanc is renowned for, as well as some light, fresh tropical fruit characters and attractive floral notes. Super delicious on the palate with those zesty and delicious tropical fruit flavours. There's a good balance between these subtle, guava fruit flavours from the slightly riper picked grapes and fresh, zingy acidity from the Sauvignon Blanc from our cooler sites. It's a wine with good palate weight and a lovely, mouth filling, fresh acidity giving good length of flavour.
Located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, West Cape Howe was named after a famous coastal landmark nearby. It was founded in 1997 by Brenden and Kylie Smith before being sold to Gavin Berry (ex-Plantagenet) and partners. West Cape Howe source fruit from specific vineyards, and sometimes specific plots, throughout the maritime-influenced Great Southern wine region. Premium parcels of fruit come from their Langton vineyard, planted in 1978. It has some of the most mature vines in the whole Great Southern area. Senior winemaker Gavin Berry prides himself on creating innovative wines that reflect the diversity of the Great Southern region. He makes wines from Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name just a few. The wine styles vary from fresh and fruity, under the Western Australian label, to wines with a more regional focus, under the Great Southern label.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
From the Langton Vineyard that stamps the bouquet with a smoky/toasty edge, the flavours shifting on the palate towards a mix of grassy/herbal notes and contrasting juicy citrus/gooseberry flavours. A cut above much of the sauvignon blanc from east or west Australia.
