For the Camus family, the beginning of great Cognac is the land on which the grapes are grown. The soil, the vine and the grapes are the cornerstones of exceptional eaux-de-vie, and this is something that the five generations of the Camus family understand.
The success of Camus is down to the vision of Jean-Paul Camus, who identified the potential of the Cognac region's different terroirs.
Guided by his own intuition, he chose to develop the generally overlooked Borderies Cru. The Camus family is today one of the largest landowners in the Borderies region. It is the land here, and the attention to detail throughout the hand distillation process, that makes Camus Cognac so special.
This XO Cognac is made from fruit grown entirely in the Borderies Cru. This is quite unusual, as selected parcels from various regions within Cognac are normally vinified and distilled, then blended together to create a "house style." The Camus Borderies XO is currently the only single Borderies growth Cognac available worldwide.
The eaux-de-vie used to make CAMUS Borderies XO Cognac has an astounding aromatic intensity and a remarkable velvety texture. Produced mainly from the most prized vines in the Domaines CAMUS estate, the wine is distilled on its lees before its long ageing in oak barrels. Each step in the ageing process has contributed to and enhanced the already rich and complex aromatic palate of this Cognac from the smallest and most highly favored of the AOC crus. Produced in limited quantities, CAMUS Borderies XO offers a rare and exquisite tasting experience.
Borderies XO is powerful, rich and creamy with a particularly velvety texture. It reveals intense sweet pastry aromas alongside notes of cinnamon, dried fruit, old port and violet. A hint of almond emerges in the long-lasting finish.
KARA NEWMAN - WINE ENTHUSIAST
Dark, mysterious and complex, this deep-amber liquid has a sherried scent, with hints of fresh figs and black cherry. The mouthwatering palate is sweet up front, showing vanilla and black cherry, drying to a long finish of earthy espresso, leather, orange peel and a brush of cocoa. Borderies region.
INTERNATIONAL WINE AND SPIRITS COMPETITION
Unusual floral nose with jasmine and violets and only then ripe orange and some dried fruit notes. Some toasted nuts and raisin follow. Smooth and well textured in the mouth with flavours sinking into the palate while floral notes abound. The violet is still prominent in the finish. Gold Medal.
