For the Camus family, the beginning of great Cognac is the land on which the grapes are grown. The soil, the vine and the grapes are the cornerstones of exceptional eaux-de-vie, and this is something that the five generations of the Camus family understand.
The success of Camus is down to the vision of Jean-Paul Camus, who identified the potential of the Cognac region's different terroirs.
Guided by his own intuition, he chose to develop the generally overlooked Borderies Cru. The Camus family is today one of the largest landowners in the Borderies region. It is the land here, and the attention to detail throughout the hand distillation process, that makes Camus Cognac so special.
The result of many years of experience, the expertise of a distillation process partially on the lees, is specific to CAMUS. The technique, requiring generations of research and refinement, gives CAMUS cognacs their signature style and enables them to extract greater aromatic potential from the base wines. This subtle and delicate process is an opportunity to choose the eaux-de-vie which will be used in the blends for future Cognacs.
Thanks to a mastery of double distillation both with and without lees, the cellar master will reveal the wine's 'heart' and soul and bring substance and aromatic complexity to each cuvée.As soon as the distillation is complete, CAMUS Cognacs are placed in oak barrels. During its long stay nestled in these barrels the Cognac will take on an amber appearance, and its sensory properties will develop as time passes. The CAMUS touch comes into play again here with the extreme care taken in selecting barrels so as to always respect the character of the original eaux-de-vie.
The nose boasts prominent jasmine aromas intermingled with subtle yellow fruit notes. On the palate this Cognac displays a remarkable balance between smoothness and structure, enhanced by vanilla and light woody notes.
