Sitting high in the town of Jesus-Maria in the Jalisco region is Clase Azul. The focus of master distiller Arturo Lomeli, is creating ultra high quality tequila, using artisanal techniques and traditional methods. The agave he uses to craft these exceptional spirits, are all farmed using organic methods, and are left to mature for an unbelievable 9 years before harvesting.
This ensures maximum flavour development and higher sugar levels, resulting in a tequila of unparalleled smoothness. All of their tequilas are then bottled in hand-made and hand-painted Talavera carafes.
The Reposado is one of the most popular expressions from Clase Azul's range. Aged for 8 months in selected oak barrels, this tequila is the perfect marriage between peppery agave flavours and smooth, vanillin oak influence.
9 year old, organic agave. 100% Blue Weber Agave. The pinas (agave hearts) are slowly cooked for 72 hours in traditional brick ovens, before crushing and fermentation using a special 'house-blend' of yeasts. Double distilled using a pot still, then triple filtered and aged for 8 months in carefully selected, second use oak barrels.
Woody, fruity, vanilla and toffee caramel aromas abound. The palate is complex and refined with spice and earth notes, coupled with vanilla and caramel notes, and an underlying sweetness. A little lift of pepper too, before the smooth, rich finish.
Everything that the plata is, is doubled in the reposado. The nose is very subtle with floral notes of jasmine, apple cider, honey and cinnamon. Wet earth and vanilla combine to give the first sip a rustic but refined mouthfeel. Notes of tobacco and chamomile, anise and clove interweave into a beautiful bouquet you won't soon forget.
