  • THE BRIEF
  • One of Australia's most popular craft gin distilleries, Four Pillars burst onto the scene back in 2013. Based around their "Four Pillars" philosophy of Stills, Water, Botanicals and Love, their Rare Dry Gin has become universally popular. But despite all of the accolades and prestige, they still only distill in batches, producing just 460 bottles each time. This allows them to keep the artisanal, hands-on approach that we have come to know and love.

The Spiced Negroni Gin was born out of a conversation between Cameron Mackenzie (the head distiller at Four Pillars) and bartender Jason Williams. They wanted to find a gin specifically for a Negroni - one that wouldn't get lost in a sea of Campari and Vermouth, and one that also wouldn't clash with the competing flavours of the cocktail. After a bit of trial and error, the Spiced Negroni Gin was launched. And, true to its word, it makes one hell of a Negroni!

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin is a highly aromatic, rich and (yes) spicy gin with great power and intensity. First, we took our base botanicals and upped the amount of Tasmanian pepperberry leaf and cinnamon. Then we added an exotic West African spice called Grains of Paradise. This is one of the most unusual spices in the world, with clove and sichuan characters. But although very powerful, the spice tends to glow rather than become hot.

We also decided to use beautiful organic blood oranges in the botanical basket, as well as some ginger. These wonderfully fragrant fresh botanicals help lift the spice to another level. Finally, we opened up the plates to add weight and intensity to the gin.

It’s intense, as fiery as hell itself, but its also actually quite layered once you get the chance to consider it... You can see how it would kick back at Campari, playing a very equal role in the Negroni.'
