Maidenii is the result of a collaboration between French winemaker, Gilles Lapalus, and Melbourne-based mixologist, Shaun Byrne. Based out of the Sutton Grange Winery, where Gilles is the winemaker, the duo have created a stunning range of boutique vermouths using both imported and native botanicals. The base wine used for each vermouth is sourced from Victorian vineyards, along with many of the native botanicals, including the vitally important wormwood.
The Maidenii Sweet vermouth is made from a base wine of Cabernet. Designed with the classic Negroni in mind, it heroes grapefruit zest, mace, angelica root, as well as Maidenii's classic mix of strawberry gum, wattle seed and river mint. Combine with equal parts Gin and Campari over ice for a beautiful Negroni.
Aromas of spice and dark berries, with a distinct citrus lift. The palate brings more citrus along with sweet baking spices and dark fruits. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity, with a gentle bitterness on the finish.
BEN KNIGHT - THE GUARDIAN
Sweet is more like a lemon, eucalypt and honey drink. It's spicy and sweet on the palate with a more pronounced grapefruit pith grip. Try 40ml of this with a big serve of dry cider for the perfect post-lunch drink.'
