The house style from Champagne de Venoge, this is a lively, fresh and elegant Champagne made with at least 50 % of Pinot Noir grapes coming from more than 20 different sites.
Utilising 20% reserve wines, this is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier and 25% Chardonnay. Aged for 3 years on lees and bottled with a dosage of 7.8g/L.
Biscuity, leesy aromas with nutty tones and a hint of caramel. The palate is riper and quite full-bodied with some honeyed notes, but balanced beautifully by citrus acidity, leading to a clean chalky finish.
In 1825 Henri-Marc de Venoge left his native Switzerland to settle in the Champagne region and founded "de Venoge & Cie" with his son Joseph in 1837. In 1838 Henri-Marc creates the first illustrated label in the Champagne history. Father and son continue to build the reputation over the next three decades until in 1866 Gaëtan de Venoge, son of Joseph, succeeds his father. He develops the sales abroad, especially in the USA, culminating in Champagne de Venoge is awarded the Grand Prize of Excellence at the Universal Exhibition of Philadelphia in 1876. Today, de Venogue Champagnes are distributed around the world in more than 40 countries, only through selective distribution : wineshops, hotels and fine restaurants and their current Cellar Master continues the long tradition of maintaining the highest quality standards during all the process : best crus, low dosage, only 1st press of grapes only and long aging period.
The NV Cordon Bleu Brut is a classic De Venoge assemblage of 50% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Meunier from roughly 20 different villages. This sample is based on the 2013 vintage (75%) and includes 15% of 2012 and 10% of 2011 (disgorged in January 2017; dosage of 7.8 grams per liter). Intense brioche and delicate chalky aromas flavor the fine and elegant bouquet. On the palate, this is a round, fresh and well-balanced Champagne with a tight structure and and impressive length. There is even a certain salinity that makes this Brut a first class aperitif and at a very good price point.
