DESCRIPTION
  • Established since 1584, and the oldest of all the Champagne houses, Gosset is one of the smallest Grande Marque Champagne producers. Whilst the champagnes that they produce have never been plentiful in quantity, they have distinguished themselves with the consistently superb quality throughout the entire range of champagnes produced.

There are many big houses of Champagne in the region producing 70+ million bottles a year. Not Gosset. This artisanal brand sticks to doing things by hand, including riddling and disgorgement.

The Gosset 15 Ans de Cave Brut is an extremely rare and beguiling Champagne, that is an entirely unique release for this house. This cuvee, which was first cellared in 1999, has been left under the earth on lees for over 15 years. Recently disgorged, this represents the absolute pinnacle of the regions craft. Using base vintages from three of the most remarkable Grand Millesime's of the last 30 years (1995, 1996 & 1998) this is like drinking the most perfectly matured, brioche and nougat drenched elixir. All Grand Cru fruit, from some of the most cherished parcels in the Cotes de Blanc.

    Extremely limited quantities.

  • WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Combining wines from several harvests, this wine expresses Gosset’s true spirit and personality rather than focusing on a single vintage. Jean Pierre Mareigner selected Pinot Noirs from Ambonnay, Aÿ, and Mareuil/Aÿ and Chardonnays from Mesnil/Oger, Cramant and Villers-Marmery. Each varietal bestows the qualities of finesse, structure and depth required for the wine to retain its freshness over time. After a prolonged ageing in the tranquillity of the cellars at a depth of more than 18 metres, the wine attains a new pinnacle of quality, an unprecedented balance between vitality and maturity.

Winemaking Notes: The cellarmaster left this wine to rest on the lees for nearly two decades in order to reveal the impact of extended lees aging on Champagne Gosset’s style of winemaking. No malolactic fermentation to retain freshness and character Use of grapes from the best grand cru and premier cru vineyards to provide the depth, structure and finesse to support extended cellaring. A blend of several stellar harvests in the late 1990s, cellared in 1999, to best express the Gosset spirit.

    TASTING NOTES

15 ans is bright lemon in colour with fine bubbles. Nectarine and peach notes combine with fragrances of biscuit and sweet spices to develop a complex and powerful nose that follows through onto the palate. This complexity blends dried fruits, quince and honey with the fresh fruit aromas. On the palate it is intense and concentrated with excellent acidity running throughout.

    98 Points - Huon Hooke

'This limited release Champagne has been aged on its lees in Gosset’s cellars for a minimum of 15 years. While it does have some maturity and toasty character, its freshness is extraordinary. The crisp fruit is still there, evoking ripe apples.'
    96 Points - Wine Enthusiast

'Richly aromatic … an intriguing, almost Sherry-like mix of salted almond, oyster shell, baked plum, singed orange peel and dried white cherry flavors framed by mouthwatering acidity. The soft bead imparts a quiet energy to the lasting finish …'
    93 Points - Wine Spectator

'Deep gold. Open, rich, complex nose delivering notes of orange-flavoured biscuit, stone fruits, dried fruits and gingerbread. The palate is lush yet also fresh, precise and fruit-forward. A superlative Champagne showing remarkable expression and length. '
    95 Points - Gilbert & Gaillard

'15 Ans, which is the minimum age of the wine in this bottling (it’s actually 17 years old). This is taking a spirits approach to Champagne, and this wine was originally laid down in the late 1990s. It’s intense, concentrated and lively with high acidity and a chalky, grainy savouriness. An alluring nose, deep, exotic, and rich, with citrus confit and light vanilla...deeply rooted in flavor, complex and subtle, richly silky but sleek, with a scintillating streak of acidity throughout...'
