One of the best value buys of the year.
An incredibly bright and vibrant Prosecco from Treviso DOC, it was scored 96 Points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017. A 96 Point wine at this price? Madness!
We were so impressed with it when we tried it, we filled a container over in Italy, and it's just arrived on our shores. This is a fantastic quality Prosecco that will be perfect for the festive season, and all through Summer. A lovely light aperitif style, it will also be at home in an Aperol Spritz. Salute!
The vineyards are flat, morainic, medium clayey texture, at an elevation of 30 - 80m asl.
Primary fermentation takes place at controlled temperature on selected yeasts, followed by a month in bottle for settling.
A pale straw colour with soft jade highlights. The nose is elegant, fresh and lifted. Reminiscent of citrus fruit: lemons, grapefruit, green mandarins and limes. Hints of apples that are clear at first but with surprising varietal notes that give the freshness of green apples and the soft sweetness of quinces. It ends with light hints of mint and fresh unripe almonds. The palate is fresh and lively in its elegance. Softly enveloping, it reveals hints of citrus fruit with a freshness that is almost fragrant. Its harmony is long and lingering embracing with sun-ripened fruit, luscious and light. There is a harmony between silky softness and lively fruity freshness.
Territory, family, tradition and innovation: these are the cornerstones on which the history of Masottina wine company is based. Indeed, it is on these foundations that a top-quality brand has been built, with an equitable relationship between man and nature.
As a pioneer on the wine-producing frontier of Conegliano, in 1946 Epifanio Dal Bianco began dedicating himself to expanding his agricultural property and to persuading his three sons, Adriano, Valerio and Renzo, to share his aspirations. It was Adriano in particular – the oenologist in the family – who led the company to a new level, focusing on avant garde choices and solutions that placed Masottina at the forefront of Italian winemaking. Even before Conegliano Valdobbiadene stepped into the limelight, Adriano and his brothers began developing the outstanding products – from Proseccos to still wines – that would give the Veneto a leading role on the Italian and world wine scenes.
Over the years the three brothers were joined by the third generation, consisting of Filippo, Federico and Edoardo, Adriano’s sons. Each of them has specialized in a different field, thus bringing to the company added technical values and know-how that have been fundamental for establishing Masottina on both the domestic and international markets.
DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS
Very intense, deep nose with notes of pear, peach, elderflower and almond. This flows onto a mineral-drenched palate with touches of eucalyptus. Great length and depth of flavour. Classy!
